Our sustainability philosophy has certainly evolved since our founding more than 30 years ago, but a few simple principles have guided us each step of the way. Today, as always, we strive to:
- Offer high quality rugs made from rapidly renewable materials
- Guarantee excellent, highly competitive benefits for our employees
- Engage in community development and support causes we believe in
- Build long-lasting and mutually beneficial partnerships with suppliers around the world
These practices provide a solid foundation for us to build on our commitment to sustainability. In recent years, we have broadened our understanding of the issues affecting our planet and our communities, and have taken some exciting steps. Some of our recent achievements include:
The Natural Step
Implementing The Natural Step
framework to educate our employees about sustainability issues related to our products and supply chain.
Auditing our facilities with the goal of reducing the use of energy, water and waste. Since 2008, our recycling efforts through SaveThatStuff
have saved almost 200 adult trees, 70 cubic yards of landfill space, and 72,170 of kilowatts of electricity. We have also replaced disposable cups, plates and utensils in our offices with durable and reusable alternatives.
Heading Home & Habitat for Humanity
Making rugs out of our scrap material to benefit organizations such as Heading Home
and Habitat for Humanity
. Leftover wool yarn from our Fall River facility is also donated to a knitting group in Fall River that creates warm, high quality clothing for the homeless.
Our current project with Pure Strategies
will lead to a complete life cycle analysis of our products. This process will help us understand how our products and manufacturing affect the environment. With this knowledge, we can make better choices about how to make our business more sustainable. We look forward to sharing our progress with you!
Sustainable Business Leader Program
Working with the Sustainable Business Leader Program
to analyze and make changes in energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, pollution prevention & safety, transportation and sustainability management.
